The Hong Kong Prize for Education Development and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize

The Hong Kong Prize for Education Development, which was founded in 2016, is intended to help create a better world by supporting the research and development of new methods to promote peace and social justice. This year, the prize was awarded to War Child Alliance’s Mark Jordans and Luke Stannard for their efforts in developing evidence-based care systems to improve children’s physical and mental health in conflict zones. Moreover, the prize aims to empower young people with life skills and leadership capabilities.

The South China Morning Post won 12 prizes in total at the 2024 Hong Kong News Awards, including in the Best Scoop category for their reporting on unauthorised structures built on luxury properties. Editors Edith Lin and Jeffie Lam from the City desk won the top prize, while reporters Kahon Chan, Natalie Wong and Lilian Cheng won second place in the same category.

Next season, races at 1600m and longer will continue to carry a 10% premium in prize money over contests over shorter distances. The prize money for the Longines Hong Kong Sprint has also been increased to HK$1.5 million. The Hong Kong Jockey Club will also implement a bonus scheme for trainers to encourage them to train horses for the Longines International Jockeys’ Championship.

For the first time, a Hong Kong-based artist has won the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, an annual competition organised by Hong Kong’s Shenzhen Sovereign Wealth Fund to support emerging Chinese artists. This year’s winner, Yingmei Wang, is a painter and illustrator whose works explore the themes of identity and community. Her paintings and murals have been exhibited internationally and she has received numerous awards, accolades and nominations.

In addition to the prize money, Yingmei Wang will receive a mentorship programme and access to Shenzhen’s global network of arts organisations. She will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other international artists on an artistic project.

The runner-up, LIV Golf reserve Ben Campbell, will pocket $2m. This is the eighth of eight elevated Asian Tour International Series events that will be held at Hong Kong Golf Club this year. The hk prize is the richest event on the Asian Tour in terms of prize money. However, the winning team will have to be able to withstand a lot of pressure from other teams to win. Hence, the team will have to play smartly and keep on trying out different tactics. The competition will be held from 23 to 28 September. The finalists will be announced at a gala dinner on 29 September.
